Hard decisions
Do you ever find it difficult to make a decision?
It seems to me that at this moment the decision lies on the edge of several values that are important to you. If your values have priority, then it is somewhere between values that are very close.
In the NOM 3.0 course, there is a homework assignment where you need to determine your 5 main life values. And this may not be easy. In the photo above, there are options, you can try to choose your 5.
Lately, I have been more frequently voicing to the team the values I operate with, which are important to me in work. For example, for me, it is professionalism, velocity (development speed), product development. By voicing the value, it is easier to justify the opinion.
- “I propose to comment out the flaky test because it destroys velocity, and the build needs to be reassembled for 30 minutes. Velocity is more important to me than quality in this case.”
- “We will take a new feature into the main product, we will not update the stack in secondary products just because they are outdated. There is not enough business support for this.”
- “We use CI/CD because it’s about speed. Stage environments are about quality. My vote is for speed.”
I advise you to pay attention to the values you operate with.
Which of them are in a priority for you?
What are the values of the people in the team? What is important to them?
